What to Do If Your Disability Claim Was Denied

Disability Benefits

Have you applied for Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) only to be denied?  If so, don’t give up! Unfortunately, many deserving applicants for SSDI or SSI get denied on the first try.

Claims are often denied due to insufficient documentation regarding the applicant’s inability to continue working.   Getting SSDI or SSI can be a complex, frustrating process that leaves many wondering what happened to a safety net they thought had been established by years of work and paying into the system.

It’s not uncommon for us to meet with individuals who have become extremely frustrated and are suffering from high levels of stress and are on the verge of giving up seeking the benefits they need to simply survive. Again, we at Disability Experts of Florida are here to tell you: don’t give up! Never give up! Only about 33% of those persons who file for SSD or SSI are approved the first time they file. Don’t despair. You are not alone. You don’t have to battle the SSA alone either! Your denial letter gives you instructions on how to begin the appeals process and unless you have totally recovered or have returned to work, YOU SHOULD APPEAL. But getting your benefits is a challenge that shouldn’t be faced alone. You’re already experiencing enough anxiety due to your disability and the financial stress you’re under. Don’t make it worse  by fighting the SSA alone.

Been Denied SSDI? Let Disability Experts of Florida Guide You through the Appeals Process

The first level of  appeal is called Reconsideration. Approximately 15% of those persons who file for Reconsideration have their decisions reversed.

If you are denied at the Reconsideration level, the second level appeal is a Hearing request. Up to 60% of those persons who request a hearing have their decisions reversed. The percentage is lower for those persons who represent themselves;  but the percentage is higher for those represented by an experienced Social Security advocate from Disability Experts of Florida.

If you have been denied on your initial claim, you need to speak with one our insightful, compassionate advocates right away. The SSA only allows you 60 days to file your appeal. At Disability Experts of Florida, we will initiate your appeal right away. In fact, we can do it over the phone.
